A common question that we have been asked through the years has been "What should I look for when choosing curriculum?"

Whether you are choosing curriculum for church, daycare, or home use, when you are looking for a good curriculum, it may be helpful to list your needs first.

Karyn Henley will be a speaker and exhibitor at the upcoming Children's Pastors' Conference in Orlando, Florida this week.  For those of you already planning to attend, be sure to attend Karyn's workshop.  Here's the topic she'll be speaking on:

Morals and Values: Caught or Taught?
Is there a difference between morals and values? Are they culturally relative or universal? With an activity component that can be replicated in the classroom, we will take a look at the latest research on moral development, think about ideas to help children deal with temptation, and discover the keys necessary for developing moral courage.
(Room: Fiesta 7/8, 9:15 AM, January 13, 2011)

We will also have a booth at this event.  Many of our products will be available at special conference prices.  Please stop by booth #523 in the exhibit hall, say hello, pick up a catalog and all the resources you need for the spring.  It's a great opportunity to save money and the cost of shipping.

Thanks, Arlene, We love hearing responses like this. Very encouraging! Thank you for choosing the Day by Day Kids Bible for your family.

Hi, Kathy,
Thanks for your comments. Karyn deliberately writes curriculum that challenges the teacher to put herself into the preparation, believing this is best for the children. But we also know that teaching styles vary and so we do not expect one curriculum to fit every situation. Thanks for giving ours a try.

Hi,
Just wanted you to know that we tried out the Jesus curriculum (Jesus: His Life, His Times, His Message) for almost 13 weeks and have found it difficult to teach. We had planned to use the whole series but were disappointed once we actually applied the lessons and activities. We have also been somewhat disappointed with the 1st and 2nd grade (Foundations) material and Apologetic curriculum (BridgeQuest and The Compass) we were using with 5th grade. It just didn't flow very well. IIn all curriculums, the visuals leave a lot to be desired. Our Sunday School teachers have had to be very creative to add to the curriculums. We are pretty ok with the Bible curriculum (Foundations: Studying the Bible) and have ordered Foundations: Salvation. This particular teacher loves a challenge and loves studying. I wish all our teachers were as resourceful.
Thanks,

I love using KHR for both my elementary and preschool classes. Throughout the past year, we've used "Jesus, His life, times, message" for our Wednesday evening program. It has been a BIG hit! As we wrap up our year, I'd like to finish with a big celebration. Does anyone have ideas/suggestions for a big "Jesus times" party we could throw? Websites, etc. would be great. Our budget is limited (nil) for this, so cheap would be great! The more food and hands-on experience the better; just like what we've had throughout our year! Thanks!

Hi, Kathy,
Welcome to our group. And thank you for your wonderful comments. We have actually been publishing ministry materials since 1989, but it is a big wide world and perhaps we have passed like ships in the night. I hope you will give some our resources a try. Let me know if you have any questions. Peace and blessings!

I have just discovered these wonderful resources. Where have you been? I have been in children's ministry for over 13 years and a children's director for over 2 years. I have been searching for some deeper studies for Sunday school that actually ask the kids to dig into their Bibles. I also have a passion to see parents take back their role as the primary spiritual disciplers of their children. These resources fit perfectly into what I believe God has for our families. Looking forward to using the material soon. "Day by Day Bible" is a wonderful idea. When my children were in that early readers transition stage I really never found a Bible to bridge that gap. Now, I have something I can share with parents of that age group. I'm excited about that. I am so excited and I don't even have the material in my hands yet.

I'm hooked on KHR material. We use it for all of our classes--nursery through grade 5. Sing and Play Bible time is a favorite and all of our teachers are sold on it.
In years past we have looked for what would be the easiest curriculum for our teachers to prepare but nothing ever really stuck and our teachers were not invested. Now that we use KH lesson plans, I'm finding that lessons actually take a bit more time to prepare--hunting for the objects and household items --but the lessons and activities are so successful and fun to teach that our teachers are enjoying the preparation.
I have a helper who has a full set of the years curriculum for elementary and each week she collects the supplies and sets up each class. She began doing this for 4 classes, but now she is only setting up for 1 because our teachers are becoming so involved in preparing lessons themselves. I can't tell you how exciting it is to know that our teachers are not just showing up Sunday morning and trying to "wing it" in their class. Our rooms are overcrowded and kids love coming. And most of all, they are learning right along with their teachers. I'll have to forward you a really cool email I received from one of our teachers. So please keep doing what you're doing! We love it!

I have been using the Day by Day Kid's Bible for a couple of years now. I assist with Parent/Child Dedication services and I give parents one of these Bibles to read to their child at each service. The parents have really enjoyed them.
We have also taken the Foundations curriculum and adapted it for 6th graders. We are taking our 6th graders through the Bible during their last year in Children's Ministry. The leader of this group loves the material! Thank you for developing such wonderful tools for us to use as we lead our children.
I heard you speak at the International Children's Pastor's Conference last year and really got a sense of your calling in regards to helping children learn about and love Jesus. Your heart shows through in your work, thank you for being God-led.
